Story
The Art of the Roadz project is based at the Minories Gallery in Colchester and consists of a series of events platforming young and emerging performers from the urban arts scene. We also run free DJ, production and lyric writing workshops at the gallery (and soon in schools) alongside mentoring from adults in the music business, supporting young people to learn skills in event coordination, workshop delivery and self-employment.
The key aims of the project are:
1. Give Young People a safe and supportive platform to perform
2. Provide a safe space for young people to get off the streets - Responding to the funding cuts for youth centres. Young people have fewer safe places to go.
3. Attract a new audience to the gallery – getting people through the door is the first barrier to diversity in museum and gallery audiences.
4. Promote ongoing engagement – We want people to keep coming back, and engaging with different things. We are creating a pathway for development by having smaller events that lead into bigger ones.
Every donation makes a difference.
