We have partnered with a local NGO in Armenia: www.sosewomen.am, who are assessing and addressing the needs of the displaced. Initial focus: basic essentials to get them through the harsh winter; then skills training and micro start-ups. Resources are scarce and they need all the help they can get.

Story

Friends of Armenia is a registered charity established in London since 2001, with the aim of helping Armenians living in their homeland to improve the quality of their life.

We have eleven founding trustees, both Armenian and non-Armenian professionals, living in London.

Friends of Armenia of today has been founded to help the population of the newly independent Republic of Armenia.

It is now actively engaged in the humanitarian effort that is going on following the evacuation of Artsakh after its capture by Azerbajian and providing for the needs of refugees.

170 refugee families (over 600 souls) from Atsakh have been allocated housing in villages near the town of Jambarak, north of Lake Sevan. They consist of about 260 women 100 school-age children, men and small children.

Since the villages are sparsely populated, there is an urgent need for some food assistance. The region is also cold and many need warm clothing, since they left with very little, given an hour or two by Azerbaijani soldiers to vacate and leave their ancestral homes and land.

President Aliyev starved the same population for 9 months by cutting their food supply routes, fuel, power and gas lines and now claims that he will protect the rights and freedom of those Armenians who chose to remain or return to Artsakh.

We need donations of cash, since goods could be purchased in Armenia and transportation from other locations is very expensive and slow.

"Friends of Armenia" joins the "Little Singers of Armenia" in trying to help the relocated refugee families in this village. We have spoken to the Regional Administrator and he is the one specifying their needs and the distribution of all assistance. He has proven to be very helpful.

Through our friend, we have already collected some funds to be used for bulk purchase of basic foodstuff. To be followed up by warm clothes and winter shoes for as many as possible, until the government allocated supplies arrive. The first two vans delivered four tons of food and clothing on October 13, led by our trustee Mariette Galichian.
