Standing Together: Urgent Appeal to Support a Young Gursikh's Road to Recovery
Arvinpal Singh, a resilient 23-year-old Gursikh student from Jammu, India, has been fighting for his life on a ventilator since a tragic accident on October 26th, 2023.
Despite enduring a three-day coma, Arvinpal's indomitable spirit shines through his adversity.
Currently confined to a hospital bed at Queens Hospital, Romford, East London, Arvinpal's limbs are immobilized, rendering him dependent on the assistance of hospital staff and kind-hearted friends for his every need.
In addition to his physical limitations, he faces emotional distress, watching the clock in anticipation of visitors who rarely come.
His family in Jammu, comprising a disabled father and a sister, anxiously await updates on his condition, unable to offer the comfort of their presence.
Efforts to transfer Arvinpal to the specialized care at the Spinal Cord Injury Centre at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore were thwarted due to his status as a foreign student.
UNITED SIKHS, in response to pleas from the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir, has mobilized support for Arvinpal's cause. We have engaged a pro bono immigration lawyer, Jaskeerat Singh Gulshan of GSJ Solicitors, who is actively pursuing his right to proper and adequate treatment.
UNITED SIKHS volunteers, including Taranpreet Singh, Jang Vijay Singh, Harsharen Kaur, and Jaspaul Singh, have stepped in to provide companionship and practical assistance.
Even amidst his pain, Arvinpal adamantly refused to part with his beard, insisting on preserving his Sikh identity.
Taranpreet Singh, who has been visiting Arvinpal regularly, highlights the need for more comprehensive care, including regular hair washes and home-cooked meals.
In an effort to enhance Arvinpal's rehabilitation, Harsharen Kaur and her brother Jaspaul Singh have arranged for a professional carer/masseur to administer specialized massages four times a week.
Within the first three massage therapy sessions arranged by UNITED SIKHS, Arvinpal started to feel an improvement. The massages have initiated positive changes in Arvinpal's condition, marking the beginning of his journey towards recovery. We are committed to ensuring Arvinpal continues to receive these vital treatments.
And thanks to UNITED SIKHS' pro bono immigration lawyer, Jaskeerat Singh Gulshan, Arvinpal has been accepted for specialist rehabilitation treatment at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Stanmore, London, following representations to the Home Office and Queens Hospital, Romford. They will begin treatment once a bed becomes available.
The Stanmore hospital case manager will be visiting Arvinpal at the Queens Hospital next week to facilitate his transfer to the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London, where he will receive specialist rehabilitation treatment as soon as a bed is available.
However, Arvinpal's journey to recovery is far from over.
He will require ongoing support, both physical and emotional, for many months to come.
Inspired by the teachings of Sikhi, we invite the Sangat to contribute towards his care.
With a modest initial target of £10,000, every donation, regardless of size, will make a significant difference in Arvinpal's life.
Your generosity ensures that Arvinpal continues to receive the care and support he so urgently needs.
Thank you for standing with us in solidarity during this challenging time.
