Story

Aspire - It made me feel like me.

Aspire was launched at St Johns Church in Birkby, Huddersfield on the 1st October 2015, with Occupational Therapist Susanna opening a group for over 55s to come together and get creative. We became a registered charity in 2019, and now have seven community groups across Kirklees that bring people together to make friends, make a difference, and change lives.

Our team of five staff and 30 volunteers love to build relationships, connect with people in real life, and help people to feel like they belong. We dont discharge anyone, instead we get to know them and build safe spaces where anyone over 55 can feel welcome and be themselves. We always see the person, not the problem, and we want to see social isolation amongst over 55s a distant memory.

By the end of January 2023 we aim to raise £10,000 which will be doubled by the Match It scheme run by One Community. With your help we can do this!

Every £1 you give will become £2! Please consider giving to change lives in your community.

My legs might be knackered but Ive still got it up here! These groups are like a safe haven for me to feel like me again.

Aspire makes me feel worthy

I had a stroke in April 2021. I come to three sessions a week at Aspire because it makes me feel good to be around friends and to do something interesting. These sessions keep me alive!
