Story
Our hanging baskets and toppers are loved by the community and visitors alike.
We took over the management from Aviemore Business Association when it ceased, and funding has traditionally been donated by local businesses.
We have a shortfall in funding every year year, which we meet from our fundraising. We are unable to sustain this for much longer as we don't receive any funding and are dependant on the goodwill of our community and businesses.
We had encountered difficulties with regards to getting someone to water the plants, every second day, and are worried about the impact on the environment too. As the existing baskets were nearing the end of their natural life (over 15 years old) we made the decision last year to replace them with self watering baskets which only need watered every five days, reducing the number of trips up and down Grampian road over the growing season from 55 to 23. Reducing our carbon footprint by 58%. The flowers lasted until the end of September, so the gamble was worth it.
Anyjobs Aviemore have stepped into the breach and have taken on the watering of the plants at a very reasonable cost.
We are appealing to the wider community to make a donation to help us fund this much loved feature of Aviemore, enjoyed by the community and visitors alike.
