For over 17 years, The Island has supported some of the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated children in York through mentoring. Our mission is to provide all children and young people with the support, guidance, positive influence, new experiences and challenges they need to thrive.

Story

With one in nine children in York living in poverty and an epidemic of mental health problems affecting young people across our City, the work of the Island is truly life-changing. Working with adult mentors and in our youth groups, children are able to create the islands of time and space they need to build their confidence, find out what they love doing, and begin to see a more positive future. Children and young people are our greatest asset and we help each individual child who is referred to us, to find their happy place.
