Visit the charity's profileYounger People with Dementia, also known as YPWD, is a registered charity operating in Southeast England. Our aim is to support people diagnosed with young onset dementia under the age of 65 by providing meaningful and age-appropriate services, whilst delivering support services for family members and loved ones.
Our main service is to provide activity-based workshops for people living with young onset dementia throughout the working week so that nobody feels isolated or alone. Examples of the age-appropriate activities we’ve delivered have included archery, cooking, climbing, equine therapy, and katakanuing. Our specialist team of support workers ensure there is a safe, fun and educational environment at each session, improving self-esteem, mood and cognition for participants.
Alongside running our daily workshops, one-to-one support and micro groups, we also deliver children’s groups, social events education & training and carer support.
YPWD is one of only a few dedicated services to this age group living with dementia in our region.
When my husband was first diagnosed at the age of 55, the bottom fell out of my world. He very rarely talked and had absolutely no confidence, however since attending the YPWD workshops he's become his old self to a large degree. My husband is full of beans when he comes home from the groups and he doesn’t say I can’t anymore, but I can and I will. Seeing how happy he is is absolutely priceless.
