The Barlow Community Fundraising In Loving Memory Of Mark Blinkhorn

On Sunday 12th October, Ms Wallace, our Headteacher and Mrs Seddon, our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, will, once again, don their running shoes – this time to participate in the Manchester Half Marathon!

Closes 31/10/2025

The Barlow RC High School is a leading 11-16 Catholic High School situated in East Didsbury, Manchester. Established in 1985, the school is a Catholic, co-educational, voluntary aided comprehensive that is part of the Salford diocesan family of schools.

Story

Their running journey started 12 months ago, when they embarked upon the Couch25K. Two months later, they completed their first parkrun and their first ever 5K with a time of around 38 minutes. They went on to run the Poynton 10K in March and thanks to the generosity of Friends of The Barlow raised £800.00 for Caritas Salford and SSFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Soon after this, they began training for the Manchester Half Marathon, with the intention of raising funds for The Barlow. It is Ms Wallace’s 10th year working in the school and so she felt it fitting to raise funds for our community. However, earlier this month, we received the sad news that one of our parents, Mark Blinkhorn, had lost his battle with cancer, aged just 44. The decision was then made to share any money raised with a charity of the family’s choice. Rebecca, Mark’s wife, wishes money to be raised for other families in our school community who face a similar situation and who might need support with the little extras. For example, a take-away to save cooking a meal, or money for someone to come and tidy the garden.

So, in October, we will run for our Barlow family and in Memory of Mark. We are grateful for any donations received, no matter how small. Please wish us luck!
