🌍 One Partnership, Many Futures
Together, we’re changing lives through education.
Our partner school, G.S. Rusuzumiro in Southern Province Rwanda is a government-aided day school with 1,305 students — from nursery to secondary. Since 2009, Barnes Primary has partnered with UK charity MAD4Africa to strengthen cultural connections, share good practice, and improve educational opportunities for children at the school.
This year, we’re raising funds for three life-changing projects that will make a real difference to students, families, and the Rusuzumiro community.
👕 1. Nursery Uniforms — Target: £1,500
Many families cannot afford school uniforms. We aim to provide 185 nursery children with a uniform (dress or shorts/shirt and a jumper) — building on last year’s success creating classroom furniture and playground equipment.
Impact: Boosts school attendance, confidence, and equality for every child.
💳 2. Health Cards — Target: £1,000
COMPLETED - 26 June 2026
Now in its ninth year, this project helps around approx. 330 people from low-income families access vital primary medical care for a full year. One health card costs approx. £3.
Impact: Provides affordable, sometimes lifesaving healthcare for the most vulnerable. Head Teacher Andrew says,
This had a positive impact on their learning and future opportunities and by returning to health more quickly, it also enabled them to return to their home chores more quickly which helps their family. All beneficiaries knew they could seek medical help, if needed, and this knowledge alone was of great benefit to everyone. Thank you for this hugely beneficial gift of health to our community.
🏐 3. Sports Playground — Target: £3,500
We plan to build Rusuzumiro’s first-ever sports court for volleyball and basketball! Rwanda is very hilly so there will be a lot of digging to make the ground fit for purpose.
Impact: Encourages teamwork, resilience, confidence, and community spirit through active play and shared achievement.
