In Cahootz creates opportunities for marginalised and isolated individuals to become active citizens. Participants are given the chance to pursue activities like music, art, drama, film-making, creative writing, visiting exhibitions and our Personal Development Award. The focus varies during the year, but there is usually an annual theatre production or exhibition that presents all the talents of the group to the general public. Our main projects are Creative Citizens, Our participant-led project for adults in recovery from substance misuse. Barrhead Drama: As well as the Creative Citizens project, we currently provide weekly drama workshops for 60 children and young people in Barrhead. The aim of these sessions is to boost confidence and self-esteem through nurturing their creative ideas and having fun. The drama workshops also promote a strong sense of community, making and building friendships and learning about inclusion. We also run an adult drama group every week in Dunterlie Community Centre.

Story

In Cahootz Barrhead started in September 2018, and has gone from strength to strength over the years. We currently have on average 60 children and young people who attend our free drama workshops each week. Each week we run four workshops - Mini's, Juniors, Inters and Youth Theatre.

Our workshops not only introduce our participants to creative arts, they give young people a voice in their community. A place to feel safe, be themselves, grow in confidence, make new friends, and develop drama and life skills.

The themes and topics of our workshops come from the ideas and suggestions from our participants, recently we have explored Climate Action, with our Drama for Change project and Mental Health with our Brighter Minds Project.

"I feel coming here makes me feel less stressed and I enjoy it"

"Coming to Barrhead drama makes me feel part of the community"

"Attending drama helps improve my confidence and it helps me with addressing a group of people"
