Horsebox Appeal

Our new horsebox is on order, but we still need another £6,000 to help pay for it. The new box will enable our ponies to go to local competitions, our riders to continue to compete locally and nationally and for routine vet visits.

At Barrow Farm RDA we aim to enable people with special needs and disabilities to develop their skills and enrich their lives through riding. We are a specially equipped riding centre in mid Essex providing riding, carriage driving and off horse activities.

Story

It’s on order and we’re eagerly awaiting delivery of our nearly new horsebox to replace the one we’ve had for years and which is now giving up the ghost. The new box will enable:-

• Our ponies to go to local competitions

• Our riders to continue to compete locally and nationally and

• Our ponies to go to the vets for assessment and treatment when needed

Competing in Regional and National Championships is a simply wonderful experience for our riders in a challenging environment away from Barrow Farm. Prior to going to these events the ponies need to go out to smaller local competitions with staff members to gain experience and to make sure that they are calm and collected when it matters most.

With generous funding from external grant makers we have managed to raise over £40,000 towards this purchase, but we still have a way to go. If you could please give a donation towards this purchase, this is the difference you could make:-

From a Mum whose son competed at the Regional Competition:

‘Today was so special and watching my son ride with such confidence was so beautiful I don’t have the words. Thank you too for making us a part of the Barrow Farm family - my son felt every bit of kindness and support. He was smiling and laughing right before he went on! We can’t wait to see where this journey takes our son but the difference the last six months have made in his life is more then we even knew was possible.’

From a Dad, whose son competed at Nationals:

‘Jack has always struggled with his confidence and self-esteem despite our best efforts, feeling less capable than his friends in a great many ways. This is the first time he has taken a huge fear and turned it around to becoming the best, it has been massively empowering and life-changing for him and we couldn't be more grateful."

And from his Mum: ‘ To win something like this is monumentally huge for his self-esteem. He finally feels that he can achieve and I believe that this is the beginning of Jack learning to love himself, and accept and be proud of his different abilities.’

And from Jack: ‘Boycie was great, he helped me a lot. I didn't expect to win, that was amazing! I can achieve when I do my best, I didn't feel like that before. Something difficult makes my whole body feel stressed, but this makes me feel that I can do absolutely anything at all.’
