We are Morecambe Bay's coastal champions! The only charity solely dedicated to the people, nature, and heritage of Morecambe Bay. From Barrow in Furness to Fleetwood, we raise funds to help the people, nature and heritage of this place special for future generations.

Story

The Bay Cycle Way hugs the coastline of spectacular Morecambe Bay. The 81 mile route was created by the charity, Morecambe Bay Partnership, in 2015 and forms part of their work to help Morecambe Bay thrive.

Funds raise by the Bay Cycle Way Challenge will help to support and champion Morecambe Bay - a special place for people, nature and heritage.

Improving Access

Your support will help reduce barriers that prevent people from accessing and enjoying Morecambe Bay's coastline and countryside - like Anita who took a trip up Hampsfell with family using our free to hire mobility vehicle service.

It was amazing to be able to go for such a distance and on such varied terrain. The views were super, we could see all the way to Ingleborough. Thank you so much for making this possible. Now I am able to get out and about again with the family.

Your donation will also support outdoor learning & education workshops that offer local children and young people a first visit to their local coastline.

Improving access to the coast and countryside for ALL boosts health and wellbeing for communities around Morecambe Bay.

Thriving Nature

Your amazing support will help to protect precious landscapes, habitats and species meaning Morecambe Bay will remain internationally and nationally significant for its habitats, birds and wildlife.

Pictured above is one of many Hazel Dormouse carefully handled by our volunteer Debs and reintroduced to woodland above Morecambe Bay as part of a major conservation project.

With 124 miles of coastline (that's 200km), Morecambe Bay is a mosaic of diverse habitats - from woodlands to limestone pavements to saltmarsh and sand dunes.

Morecambe Bay's coastline and countryside supports over 250,000 birds alone, alongside rare butterflies, moths, orchids and mammals.

All these species need help from people like you to survive.

Protecting Heritage

Your support will also help to protect and preserve the Bay's precious heritage.

Morecambe Bay has a rich and often overlooked history and heritage. From impressive archaeological remains to nationally significant monuments and sites, the Bay offers history and heritage spanning millennia.

Take Birkrigg Common's Bronze Age stone circle (pictured above). Every year, since 2015, our volunteers cut bracken which used to overrun delicate archaeological features. This work (by the volunteers below) means the site is no longer on the 'Heritage At Risk' register and reveals the monuments for more people to enjoy.

People like you can protect, preserve and support Morecambe Bay.

And together we can keep Morecambe Bay special.
