Story
In March 2020, the YMCA of Greater Houston mobilized almost overnight to meet the needs of a community reeling from the unanticipated impact of COVID-19. Independently and in partnership with other nonprofits including the Houston Food Bank, the Y turned its neighborhood-based facilities into centers for food distribution, childcare for essential workers, and remote learning for families without access to internet. At the same time, however, the YMCA itself was swiftly and severely impacted by the pandemic. Forced to close its centers to comply with public health regulations and shut down its school-based programs because of local school closures, YMCA Houstons membership dropped by 50% and the organization suffered a $50 million budget shortfall.
Join us in making an impact in our community The YMCA of Greater Houston works with our neighbors to ensure everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, regardless of ability to pay.
