Story
From Broken Beginnings to a Brighter Future
"My parents were teenagers when I was born. Their relationship broke down, and soon after, my mum and her new partner started using heroin. Life became chaotic. My sibling was born addicted, and by infant school, we were both in care."
Separated from my sibling, I felt lost. School was a struggle, I moved three times, made no friends, and skipped classes. Anger and loneliness consumed me. At 16, I was homeless, carrying my life in two bin bags, sofa-surfing with nowhere to go.
"That’s when I found Southend YMCA. They gave me a home and hope."
With their support, I got my first job, learned independence, and turned my life around. I’ll always be grateful for that chance.
Your kindness can change lives like mine.
"Be the reason. Be the hope. Be the smile."
