Story
For over two decades, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices has been supporting babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. They support families from diagnosis, to end of life and throughout bereavement, with a range of nursing, practical, emotional, and medical care. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months, or years, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices will be there to make every moment count for families facing the unimaginable.
Their purpose-built hospices care for around 650 babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions each year, along with 450 bereaved families. They understand that daily life for families with a life-limited child can be unpredictable, highly pressured, and physically and emotionally exhausting, so their specialist care services are available free of charge, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They provide specialist nursing in the community, symptom management and pain relief, overnight respite stays, end-of-life care, specialist bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies, groups, and clinics for the whole family. Today they are a leading children’s hospice charity who support one in ten families in England.
