Story

Bringing Reptile Education to Our Communities

At The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre, we believe that reptiles have the power to do more than simply fascinate us. They can inspire curiosity, challenge misconceptions, create lasting memories and bring people together.

While rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming reptiles remains at the heart of our charity, we are passionate about sharing our knowledge and helping people of all ages discover these incredible animals.

That's why we're launching Beyond the Scales, our educational outreach fundraising campaign, with the aim of raising £3,000 to help bring reptile education to more communities across Sussex.

More Than Just an Educational Visit ❤️

Over the past year, we've had the pleasure of visiting care homes and community groups, introducing people to reptiles they might never otherwise have the opportunity to meet.

Some of our most memorable experiences have been with care home residents, including people living with dementia.

Following our visits, we've received heartwarming feedback from care home staff who told us that some residents were still talking about meeting our reptiles several days later.

For us, that is what makes our outreach programme so special.

It's not just about learning the difference between a snake and a lizard. It's about sparking conversations, creating positive experiences and helping people connect with the natural world.

Inspiring the Next Generation 🌍

We want to take our educational programme into more schools, youth centres and community organisations.

Through engaging, interactive sessions, we aim to teach young people about reptile biology, conservation, responsible pet ownership and the importance of animal welfare.

Reptiles are often misunderstood, and many people are frightened of them simply because they have never had the opportunity to learn about them.

We want to change that.

By introducing people to these remarkable animals in a safe and educational environment, we hope to replace fear with fascination and inspire a lifelong respect for wildlife.

Why We Need Your Support

As a small, volunteer-supported charity, delivering educational visits comes with costs.

From transporting our animals safely to providing educational resources and specialist equipment, every session requires careful planning and preparation.

We're hoping to raise £3,500 to help us expand our outreach programme and reach more people across Sussex.

Your donations will help us:

Deliver educational visits to schools, care homes and community groups.

🐢 Purchase educational materials and interactive learning resources.

🐍 Cover transport and equipment costs for outreach visits.

❤️ Maintain appropriate animal welfare and hygiene standards during sessions.

🌍 Make reptile education accessible to more people in our communities.

Every Donation Makes a Difference

Whether you can spare £5, £10, £25 or more, your generosity will help us continue sharing the wonderful world of reptiles.

Even if you're unable to donate, sharing our campaign with friends, family and local businesses can make a difference.

Together, we can inspire curiosity, change perceptions and bring communities closer to wildlife.

Please support our Beyond the Scales campaign and help us take reptile education beyond the rescue.

Thank you for helping us make a difference. 💚
