Story
Last April, due to the Covid pandemic, we had to close the doors to Hope House and were looking for ways to continue to help and support our families affected by cancer.
We came up with the idea of delivering a meal each week to families that were undergoing active treatment and within a day Team BFS had it set up, supported and ready to go the following Friday. Initially we planned to deliver the meals for 4 weeks but here we are one year later still delivering which is a fantastic achievement!! Just knowing we have been there for people at the worst times in their lives has driven us on and seeing the impact it has had just makes us so proud.
On the 30th April we will have delivered nearly 7,000 meals to hundreds of families across the whole of the North Lincolnshire area. In addition to these meals we have given much needed support and counselling, friendships have been forged and most importantly people have not felt alone at one of the most difficult times of their lives.
The project has been run entirely by a team of volunteers. This group of amazing people have turned up week in/week out to offer the most precious thing of all - their time!!
Having a nutritious meal delivered each week has made a big difference to our families especially if they are having treatment or if a terminal diagnosis has been given.
We would love to keep delivering the meals for as long as possible as we have seen first-hand the difference it makes.
