BHMT FC vs Beder FC | Mental 'Elf Derby Fundraiser – Saturday 14th December

BHMT (Beer-Harris Memorial Trust) is a family-run mental health awareness and fundraising charity which supports community-based projects and research projects for people experiencing mental health issues. Since founding in 2014, we've raised over £200,000 and in the last 3 years alone have given grants to over 30 charities and projects to help them deliver support to those in need of mental health care.

As our main fundraising event this year, we've chosen to host a Mental 'Elf Derby game between newly formed BHMT FC and incredibly worthy opponents Beder FC, who are a unique charity football team raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

The match will be in aid of mental health awareness and will raise money for all the incredible charities we support, including Beder. We're doing this as part of the Big Give 2024 Christmas Challenge, so if we hit our donations target, whatever you donate to our campaign will be doubled!

We have chosen this occasion to launch our own football team, BHMT FC, to continue the footballing legacy of the Beer family. We've been particularly inspired by Michael Beer, who founded his own football team when he was well into his forties before going on to play over 500 games for the side! Known as the Hamilton Academicals (or 'The Accies') due to the side playing at Hamilton Road in Reading and featuring several members of the university, the club received explicit permission from the original Scottish team to use their name. Michael was father to Dominic Beer and grandfather to Joseph Harris, the two men after whom the BHMT is named.

If you'd like to attend this inaugural match, it will take place on Saturday 14th December at Meadowbank Stadium, home of National League South side Dorking Wanderers, with kick-off at 6pm.
