Organised by Big CHelp us build a new cancer support centre in Norwich. We have already raised £700,000 for building work to commence. We need to continue fundraising to complete the build and for the fixtures and fittings and all the finishing touches.
At Big C, we see first hand the impact cancer has on individuals, families, friends and communities across Norfolk & Waveney. Since 1980 we have been dedicated to the fight again cancer and today, we help thousands of people across our county and beyond.
We are the only organisation offering specialised, community-based cancer support centres in Norfolk, with centres at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), in Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.
Living with cancer can have a devastating effect on mental and physical health, and can impact on relationships, finances, workplace, and family life.
Every year more than 8,000 people in Norfolk & Waveney will be told that they have cancer and many more are living with the effects every day.
22,319 visits were made to our centres in 2019 and the number of visits will continue to increase.
Added to this now, delays to cancer diagnoses and treatment due to the Covid 19 pandemic have been well documented and national health strategies make clear the urgent need for increased community-based support.
These are the reasons why we launched our Nearer to Home appeal.
We are going to build a new Cancer Support Centre in the centre of Norwich.
Working with Norwich based architects, Purcell, we are repurposing an existing building on Dereham Road in Norwich.
To make this vision a reality, we need you. Every pound donated to the appeal will go directly to the development of this vital new centre to support local people in the heart of the Norwich community.
With your help we have already raised £665,000 for the building work to commence and you will be able to see that in progress from early summer 2021 when the builders start on site.
But we need to continue fundraising
To complete the build and for the fixtures and fittings and all the finishing touches, so that the centre can open early in 2022 and welcome people through the doors.
