Story

Each year, The Salvation Army’s Big Connection raises funds to support individuals in our local communities who are facing crisis or need support.

In our communities, many people are experiencing unprecedented struggles. The Big Connection aims to bring us together to raise vital funds for those in desperate need. It’s a powerful opportunity to demonstrate compassion and commitment by bringing hope to those who feel overlooked or forgotten.

Through a network of over 600 churches and community centres, we offer compassionate support, a listening ear and practical help to those who need it most.

Our initiatives include:

• Giving homeless people a safe place to stay and a fresh start

• Breaking the chains of drug and alcohol addiction

• Helping people find their way out of debt

• Providing specialised support for adult survivors of modern slavery

• Creating opportunities for children and young people

• Providing care and companionship for elderly individuals

• Supporting people in finding work and training opportunities

100% of donations to The Big Connection will help those who are vulnerable or in need, including people right here in our community, just like Tim.

Tim had a traumatic childhood and, in his teenage years, took drugs to numb the pain. To pay for drugs, he turned to crime and spent several years in prison. Each time he was released, he stayed in hostels where drug pushers were prevalent, making it difficult for him to escape his addiction. Some may have seen Tim as a ‘hopeless case’ but not The Salvation Army. We offered Tim a place in a safe haven, a Salvation Army Life house. Here we helped him find the strength to overcome his addiction.

‘ The Salvation Army helped me break

all the negative cycles in my life,

making me a better person – and I

will forever be grateful for that.’ Tim

Help us transform lives like Tim’s today. Together, we can create a lasting impact.
