The #BigRedAdventChallenge
In April 2025, I had the honour of running the London Marathon dressed as a pair of homemade inflatable lungs: a tribute to my incredible friend Charlie Maxwell, 44-year-old British Army serving officer, who was diagnosed with stage IV non-smoking lung cancer in Oct 2023.

Charlie’s diagnosis was a shock. Fit, healthy, and a never-smoker, she’s now facing an incurable illness with courage and determination. I ran in solidarity with her, raising funds for the Ruth Strauss Foundation (RSF) a charity she suggested, and one I’ve come to deeply admire.
Before Charlie’s diagnosis, I hadn’t heard of RSF. Now, I’m proud to champion their work. They’re a small but mighty force in the charitable world, leading from the front with compassion and innovation.
RSF supports families facing cancer, offering pre-bereavement care for children and families, directly linking in with schools via their school project work, direct family support and grants and even corporate workshops to help workplaces support grieving families.

Sadly, When another friend Nic was placed on end-of-life care following a sudden cervical cancer diagnosis, RSF were there again, offering immediate support to me and her family. Their reach and responsiveness continue to amaze me.
One of the most meaningful parts of this journey was being invited to learn about RSF’s research and projects, and having the opportunity to help decide where the money I raised would go. It gave me a real sense of connection and purpose, knowing exactly how those funds would make a difference to families and individuals affected by cancer.
Now, I’m taking on my next challenge:🎄 The Big Red Advent Challenge 🎄

From 1st to 25th December 2025, I’ll be completing a surprise task or challenge each day to raise awareness and funds for RSF. Stepping out of my comfort zone for this challenge is nothing compared to the daily reality faced by families and individuals living with cancer.
The physical and emotional toll, the heartache, and the unimaginable strength it takes to navigate each day, especially for children and loved ones, is far greater than any fear or discomfort I might feel. This challenge is my way of honouring their courage, and showing that while I can’t take away their pain, I can stand beside them, raise awareness, and help support the incredible work of the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

This is for Charlie. For Nic. For every family navigating the heartbreak of cancer. And for RSF, who are changing lives with compassion, courage, and care.
Thank you for supporting me on this journey.
