What is the Big Sleep Out at home?

The Big Sleep Out at home is on the weekend of World Homeless Day, 9-10 October 2021, and sees participants swap their comfortable beds for a sleeping bag in their garden - all to raise £60,000 to support those affected by pandemic-related homelessness.

While the Big Sleep Out at home doesn't aim to replicate homelessness, by sleeping out participants will get an insight into some of the things people experience when they're rough sleeping night after-night such as cold temperatures, an uncomfortable bed and limited sleep.

Who will the Big Sleep Out at home support?

By donating, you will be helping us provide urgent support for local people who are at risk of losing their home as a result of the pandemic.

Our drop-in service, which provides free housing and homelessness support and information, has seen a sharp rise in the number of people in COVID-related crisis many of whom never imagined they would ever need to reach out for Launchpads help.

Some are on the brink of homelessness because they have been made redundant, are fleeing domestic violence or have been asked to leave their home since the eviction ban was lifted. Other people's tenancies are at risk because they've battled serious mental health issues or their addiction has worsened since the outbreak of the virus.

With your kindness and generosity, we can continue our vital work with vulnerable individuals, couples and families in Reading who are feeling the devastating impact of the pandemic, and ensure they remain housed.
