Story

Thank you so much for your donation. I thought I would let you all know that the fall picnic was a huge success. Over 100 students joined us last night at the Myrick Park Main Shelter for food, music and fun. The yard games, music, and liquid nitrogem ice cream were a huge hit!! It was so nice to see students being able to gather together again and socialize!

What comes to mind when you think back on your experiences at UWL that had a positive impact on you? Were there late nights studying with friends? Do you have good memories participating in the CHM-BioCHM Club Magic Shows or conducting undergraduate research? How about finally understanding that challenging concept during your professors office hours? Whatever you remember, these memories have likely stayed with you because they involved meaningful relationships with friends and mentors.

Unfortunately, for the past year and a half, our students have had to contend with virtual classes and labs away from campus, and have missed the opportunity to create a strong peer network and relationships with faculty. The goal of our campaign is to celebrate our students return to campus with a Welcome Back Picnic. The gathering location (Myrick Park), program, and events are being designed to welcome new and returning students into the Chemistry & Biochemistry department. Faculty and staff (with families) will join the picnic to establish a sense of community for the students. Students can socialize with each other to create a strong peer network, and with faculty so that they can meet the people who will advance, encourage and support their academic success. Members of the CHM-BioCHM Club will also be present to inform students about getting involved.

We are seeking your support to help us cover the cost of a picnic meal for our students. Students are also being encouraged to bring a friend, thus we are anticipating a large group (free food!). Will you consider donating $10 or $20 to help cover the cost of one or two student meals? Thank you for helping us start the 2021-2022 academic year in a positive and meaningful way for our students!
