At Auckland City Hospital, the Mana Awhi Service has four wards dedicated to supporting older adults following illness and injury. Sadly many of these patients, are at their most vulnerable, spending weeks in hospital trying to return to some level of independence.
The Mana Awhi staff do an extraordinary job but hospital can be isolating, confusing, very clinical and at times boring! We have found that these blankets have provided patients with not just warmth and comfort but also a sense of connection whilst brightened up the bed spaces!
Donations to the Blanket Project pay for wool that an army of volunteers hand-knit into blankets gifted to our patients.
"Patients light up when they receive one of these beautiful blankets. They instantly feel cared for and it often sparks stories and starts conversations across the bed spaces.
Each blanket is precious gift, making a positive impact on patients sense of wellbeing"
Dr Gudrun Davies, Clinical Psychologist.
Donations to this campaign help older adult patients feel more valued and ultimately can improve health outcomes and aid the speed of their recovery.
