Story
An individual living with dementia can all too often become isolated, withdrawn and feel removed from their community as their world with dementia becomes smaller and smaller. Families and carers may not know where to turn or know how to help.
The Kitwood model rightly says there are 5 areas of life that every person needs to be able to thrive. Love, Comfort, Attachment, Inclusion and Occupation.
"Each person has come to be who they are by a route that is uniquely their own, every stage of the journey has left its mark" - Tom Kitwood
Addressing these areas in a Person centred holistic way, we are able to improve the mental well-being of the individual and positively promote their independence.
"One person with dementia is one person with dementia"
Although there may be certain characteristics or behaviours to the different types of dementia, a persons dementia is as unique to them as a fingerprint.
