Story

Each university sailing club needs six Fireflies to compete in the British University Team Racing Championships.

Here at Edinburgh, our boats have been the backbone of student sailing for over 12 years, but after thousands of hours on the water, they’re showing their age. To keep our sailors safe and competitive, we urgently need to replace them before the fleet becomes unfit for racing.

We are now raising funds to purchase a brand-new fleet of Fireflies, so we can continue competing at the highest level and expand sailing opportunities for everyone in our club. The boats will also be used by other unis at events, helping university sailing across Scotland thrive.

We’ve already raised £40,000 of £60,000 required, and we’re aiming to raise the final £20,000 over the next two years.

Every donation brings us closer, and we’re incredibly grateful for any support you can give :)

Who are we?

We’re Edinburgh University Sailing Club (EUSC); formed of over 140 passionate sailors from beginners to top-level racers. We’re one of the most active and successful clubs in the UK:

• Our Team Racing section is the strongest in Scotland, with four teams (three competing at BUCS level).

• Our Yacht Racing teams are consistently top in Scotland and rapidly growing.

• Our beginner and intermediate group comprises over 100 sailors, who have discovered the joy of sailing with weekly training thanks to our amazing volunteer coaches.

We have ambitious goals for the future, and a new fleet is essential to achieve them:

• Host BUCS Finals 2027 – bringing top-tier university sailing back to Scotland for the first time since 2018

• Double our beginner capacity – giving even more students the chance to learn and fall in love with sailing

• Expand the training we can offer – with more boats we can offer better racing training to teams and beginners.

Sailing is such a big part of our lives; we want the next generations of EUSC sailors to enjoy it as much, and to grow through sailing-related commitment.

A massive thank you for your support,

The EUSC committee.
