Story
At Bookmark, we want every child to read.
1 in 4 children leave primary school unable to read well. Disadvantaged children are disproportionately affected with the attainment gap now at the widest it's been in a decade. We know that reading is about so much more than just books, it’s a cornerstone to feeling safe, secure, and independent. Children who leave school unable to read well struggle to secure employment, face challenges with their mental health and wellbeing, and even face a shorter life expectancy.
With your support, we can change the story for children falling behind. A gift of:
£120 – could deliver one Bookmark Book Rocket pack to a struggling primary school, an injection of fresh resources to revamp their library spaces and develop a strong reading culture
£265 – could provide one Bookmark reading programme, giving a child falling behind in their reading the vital one-to-one support they need to catch up
£550 – could cover the costs of supporting and engaging seven existing Bookmark volunteers for a year, the key ingredient to ensuring children have access to dedicated support from a trained, safeguarded and passionate volunteer
£1,530 – could provide 45 headsets and 45 webcams to our partner schools, to ensure that children at under-resourced schools are still able to access our online, one-to-one reading support
£2,740 – could support 10 Bookmark partner schools with termly deliveries of 200 copies of our free Story Corner Magazine to boost at-home learning
£5,000 – could provide 20 Bookmark partner schools with a grant of £250 for teacher training to help struggling schools provide their pupils with the high-quality teaching that will help them catch up
£6,167 – could support children in an existing Bookmark partner school for an entire year with up to 45 one-to-one reading programmes for children delivered by our trained volunteers, as well as termly deliveries of high-quality book packs, associated teacher and at-home learning resources, and dedicated support from our Schools team
