At Bookmark, we want every child to read.
In a 'normal' year, eight children in an average class leave primary school unable to read well. Now, the pandemic has made things much worse. Children in Years 1 and 2 are two or three months behind where they should be. Disadvantaged children are seven months behind their peers in reading.
If these children don't catch up, they're more likely to drop out of school, go on to be unemployed, and even have shorter life expectancy.
To tackle this problem, on 22nd May 2022, a team of Bookmark supporters will take on the epic Tough Mudder Challenge. Our Tough Mudders will run, slide, and climb through a 5km obstacle course to give children who are at risk of falling behind in their reading, a fair chance in life.
