Story
Bridges to Books

We’re walking nearly 80 miles from Ironbridge to Hay-on-Wye.
From a symbol of human ingenuity…
to a town dedicated to books, language, and learning.
But this is more than a walk.
It’s a journey that reflects the experience of thousands of children and adults who think differently — especially those who are dyslexic.
Why this matters

Many bright, capable people struggle with reading, writing, or attention.
Not because they lack intelligence —
but because they process the world differently.
Too often, this leads to frustration, loss of confidence, and the feeling of being “left behind.”
A different approach — The Davis Methods
The Davis Methods offer a different way forward.

Rather than trying to “fix” the individual, they work with the natural strengths of visual and experiential thinkers.

Through personalised, one-to-one programmes, individuals learn how to:
gain control over focus and attention
resolve confusion around symbols like words and numbers
build lasting confidence in learning
For many, this is a turning point — from struggle to clarity.
Since his Davis Programme with you, Tom has changed his life around completely. Thank you Richard. It makes me want to weep when I see the difference in him.
Why we’re raising funds

These programmes can be life-changing.
But they are not always accessible to every family.
Through Gifts for Dyslexia, we provide bursaries to help individuals access Davis programmes — opening doors that might otherwise remain closed.
The walk

We (Richard and Tanya) will be walking the full route ourselves.
Across hills, valleys, and borders — carrying everything we need, step by step.
Each mile walked represents:
- a challenge faced
- a barrier overcome
- a bridge crossed

How you can help
Every donation helps us support more individuals to access life-changing programmes.
You can also amplify our campaign by organising a satellite Bridges To Books walk in your own area. Just click the orange "Start Fundraising" buitton and email us at admin@giftsfordyslexia.org.uk for your local fundraising pack.
