Together, Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity and The Alnwick Garden are proud to launch The Bright Garden Appeal, a joint fundraising appeal supporting two charities dedicated to improving lives through the power of nature.

We’re raising funds to create calm and connection, for patients, families, staff and local communities when they need it most, as well as helping people age well, combat childhood obesity, improve confidence, educate and inspire.

Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity is working to create vibrant green spaces in hospitals—vital sanctuaries designed to enhance wellbeing, reduce stress, and offer moments of calm for everyone who needs them. These spaces will support:

- Patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care on hospital wards, offering comfort, dignity, and peaceful surroundings during the most difficult moments.

- Families and carers spending precious time with their loved ones, giving them a tranquil place to reflect, rest, and connect.

- Clinical staff delivering holistic, person-centred care, who can use these environments as part of therapeutic practice and to support their own wellbeing.

- Enhancing biodiversity in our outdoor spaces, providing opportunities for communities to connect with nature.

Funds will also support The Alnwick Garden’s Community and Education Programmes which strive to improve wellbeing, inspire learning and empower our most vulnerable community members to thrive. The programmes provide safe, inclusive and meaningful activities to a range of community groups with targeted outcomes for some of the most disadvantaged groups:

- Aging population of over 55’s.

- Young people with special educational needs and their families.

- People with barriers to employment.

- Families and individuals struggling with the cost of living.

- People who are socially and rurally isolated.

By supporting this appeal, you will help green the spaces and the people in our community that matter most, from hospital courtyards to community programmes, ensuring more people across Northumberland and North Tyneside can experience the nurturing benefits of nature when they need it most.

In the interest of transparency, donors are advised that proceeds from this fundraising page will be allocated on a 50:50 basis between Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity and The Alnwick Garden. Each charity will receive half of the final amount raised once all donations have been processed.
