A Story of Hope
Hanan, a Syrian widow and a mother of three children, living in Shatila Camp, shares how the difficult living conditions during Ramadan over the past year have affected the iftar table during the month of Ramadan. She explains that the table, once filled with a variety of dishes, now lacks even the most basic food items. They can no longer afford meat or chicken, and even a plate of Fattoush (Lebanese traditional Salad from basic Vegetables), which used to be a staple of the iftar meal, has become too expensive and hard to obtain. She adds with sadness:
We now treat the iftar table like any other ordinary day. We prepare just one meal, with maybe some yogurt or juice on the side.
Hanan explains that the ongoing rise in prices directly affects her ability to purchase the food supplies needed to prepare for the holy month, to the point that even simple Ramadan sweets have become a luxury.
She notes that any form of financial or food assistance could make a real difference, helping her provide the necessary food for herself and her children during Ramadan and easing part of the heavy daily burden she carries.
