For the past few years, CADFA has organised amazing summer projects that have taken young Palestinians from different towns, villages and refugee camps - usually so confined - to see each other’s home towns where they have been shown round by young people who have explain about their own place, what they are proud of and also about the human rights situation.

Since autumn 2023, however, the situation in Palestine has been too bad to allow the group to travel north and south regularly on roads that now have extra checkpoints and increasing pressure from Israeli settlers and soldiers. The organisers judged that Beyond the Checkpoints had to be run, sadly, on Zoom.

Some of the group were able to meet during CADFA youth visits to the UK. These were great visits, but at the end we saw the young people being sad particularly because they feared they might never see their new Palestinian friends again.

In Jan 2026, we decided to do something about this! People north and south of the West Bank can manage (if they get up early enough) to have a day in Jericho and return home – so we brought hese groups of young people together for a day of activities, arts, sports, discussion and just time to be together. It turned out to be very special and memorable.

Now we have decided that we must incorporate a day like this into each of the Beyond the Checkpoints projects we run. We are about to start BTC 2026 and are now asking for your help to raise the money for the different groups to meet each other at least once. We are seeking money for travel from their different villages, towns, refugee camps (this is the biggest expense), for venue hire and a special meal for all of them. Would you be able to help?

Jericho is too hot for the summer but at time of writing our friends are deciding where they are able to take the children so they can all meet.
