Building Fund

When its pouring with rain and you've got wet through, isn't it great to get in the dry and have somewhere clean to change? That means good Buildings, well maintained. Do you agree? Can you help us?

Story

Warm, dry and clean we all take that for granted. Every day we go out, maybe to work or school, and we come home, and we are comfortable. We are shocked if the heating breaks down or the roof leaks. We take the buildings we use and the homes we live in for granted. At times we forget, even resent, that they need to be looked after and repaired.

Its the same in Uganda for the staff of Potters Village and the children who stay there. They want to be warm and dry and in a clean environment. However, unfortunately, thats not always possible. As a charity The Friends of Potters Village wants to do its best to ensure that the buildings at Potters Village are well maintained and when the need for a new building arises we want to support that. Would you help us in this ambition?

They have more sun and rain in Uganda than we have in the UK and so the buildings wear out more quickly. The Friends of Potters Village needs to work with the staff to keep the buildings in good condition.

We also want to improve the environment at Potters Village. The Medical Centre needs another consulting room to see outpatients in and the nursing staff currently have nowhere secure to change for work and leave their belongings. By building a separate changing room for the staff we can free up space in the medical centre for a second consulting room. This will help those staff who have a long walk to work, either in dusty or muddy conditions, and will maintain the necessary standards of hygiene in the Medical Centre.

The compound tends to flood in heavy rain, so wed like to provide a raised, covered walkway between the Medical Centre and the other wards. This will allow the parents and staff to walk in the dry between the wards and the clinic.

Finally, we need to provide a mortuary to give dignity for children who have died, sadly a more common occurrence in Uganda than the West.

We estimate we need £15,000 to achieve all this. We would be very grateful for any contribution you can make.
