Help us build the first neurodivergent-friendly training pod

Many people don’t need more advice — they need a place where change feels possible. This training pod is the first step, shaped by the people who use it.

Designs on Yourself (SCIO) is a Scottish charity creating calm, structured and neurodivergent-friendly spaces where adults can rebuild confidence, improve wellbeing and develop healthier habits at a pace that works for them. We exist because many people want to move forward but find conventional health, fitness or self-development settings intimidating, overwhelming or difficult to access. Our approach combines coaching, practical support and integrated movement in an environment designed to feel welcoming, clear and manageable. We are currently building our first venue and developing our programme so we can support participants in a way that is accessible, encouraging and sustainable. Donations help us equip the space, provide programme materials and support people through the programme. It costs around £800 to support one participant through the full programme, but every donation helps us move closer to creating a place where more people feel able to begin.

Story

A lot of people don’t need more advice

Advice is everywhere.

Gyms.

Classes.

Weight loss groups.

Seminars.

Programmes.

And for some people, those environments work.

But for many others, the experience of walking into those spaces feels overwhelming, exposing, or simply not built for how they think.

Not because they don’t want to change.

Because the environment makes it feel impossible to begin.

So where do they go?

A different kind of starting point

Designs on Yourself was created to answer that question.

We build structured frameworks that help people move step by step toward change — not through hype or pressure, but through clarity, method and understanding.

For some, accountability and group energy work.

For others, they don’t.

They need a space where things make sense.

Where nothing feels forced.

Where progress can happen without overwhelm.

The missing piece

For many of the people we work with, improving physical health is an important part of that journey.

Movement. Strength. Energy. Confidence.

But traditional fitness environments are often the very thing that prevents that step from ever being taken.

So we need a different option.

Something that allows that element to exist — without making it the centre of attention.

Why the training pod exists

The training pod is our solution.

A space that is there when it’s needed — and out of sight when it’s not.

A space that can be adapted to the individual:

Equipment only added when the user is ready

Lighting adjusted to suit comfort and sensitivity

Sound controlled completely by the participant

Panels designed to contain sound without creating a closed, claustrophobic feeling

It’s not about building the perfect setup from day one.

It’s about creating a space that can be shaped around the person using it.

Built to evolve

This first version is not the final design.

It’s a starting point.

We will build a minimum version, use it, listen, adjust, and refine.

Over time, with feedback and potentially input from specialists in areas like sound and lighting, these pods will evolve into something far more precise.

But we have to start.

Why this matters

There are people who have spent years avoiding environments that never felt right for them.

Not because they don’t care.

Not because they haven’t tried.

Because nothing has felt like it was built with them in mind.

If we can change that — even for a small number of people to begin with — it opens a door that has been closed for a long time.

Where we are now

We have secured a venue in principle and are working through the final steps to make it usable.

This campaign allows us to build the first training pod so we can move immediately once the space is confirmed.

The first step

This is not the finished product.

It’s the beginning of something that will be shaped over time, by the people it’s designed to support.
