Story
Bury People First is a self-advocacy organisation run by and for adults with learning disabilities living in Bury, to speak up for our rights and promote our interests in society and local and government policy.
We do this in the following ways:
• Working alongside local services to ensure that changes and improvements are appropriate to the people we represent
• Encouraging people to speak up for themselves and others through training, workshops and information gathering
• Raising awareness of everyday issues such as health, employment, leisure and housing
Our aim is to help people to gain the skills needed to become fully inclusive members of their communities. To help achieve this aim Bury People First work with many organisations locally, regionally and nationally.
Bury People First was set up by a group of adults with learning disabilities and has been running since 2000. It is a registered charity and donations are vital to continue our work and continue to make positive changes to lives of the most vulnerable in society.
