Butterflies Bereavement Support was created 2 years to meet the growing need of supporting the emotional and physical needs of those aged 16 plus who have experienced the loss of a loved one or a friend through death. We have developed in this time from a community organisation run by a handful of volunteers to a registered charity working in the community for the community and make great steps forward in transforming the lives of people who struggle with the effects of losing someone special.
The demands on our services are immense, and for the past two years we have rented venues out for different groups and counselling sessions. Now is the time we feel to create a dedicated and accessible bereavement support centre that meets the growing needs of our work in one place and also enables us to have a central office where our helplines can be based rather than in the spare room of our founders home!
We have seen a venue that would be our administrative base for Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight and this would, through the support of volunteers be maned daily through the week and some hours at the weekend.
In addition to the administrative side of our work, the biggest part of everything that we do is the support that we give bereaved people and families, the centre will support in many more ways with:
Dedicated counselling suite for individuals and families
A coffee and chat area
Space for smaller group sessions
An extended advice and information service
A place of comfort at the time of need
Rooms available for other related therapies
We also hope to be able to have a coordinator part time to keep everything in order, but the volunteers will be the ones running the centre.
This is a unique and much needed project for the three counties and the centre will be serving the smaller community hubs already in place.
All money raised will be used for the new centre
