Story
Cabs-for-Veterans (formerly Poppy Cabs) is a volunteer initiative in London where licensed black cab drivers provide free taxi rides to military veterans attending the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph. Founded in 2009, the service is entirely funded by the drivers who give up their fares and time to ensure veterans can travel comfortably and safely to the events. The service typically provides hundreds of free trips over a two-hour window, specifically before and after the memorial events. Drivers focus their routes on mainline train stations, bringing veterans to central London and waiting to take them home afterwards. Because all of London's iconic black cabs are fully wheelchair accessible, the service is particularly vital for disabled and elderly veterans who might otherwise struggle to use public transport on such a busy day.
Cabs-for-Veterans has long been a supporter of the Taxi Charity - cab drivers often have a QR code linking to the Taxi Charity website, and for many years, a special badge was produced, with the proceeds of the sales going to the Taxi Charity and other veterans' charities.
While Cabs-for-Veterans does charitable work it is not registered as a charity. Consequently, our two organisations have joined forces to set up this Justgiving page so that supporters of Cabs-for-Veterans can continue to raise funds for the Taxi Charity.
