Story

Caleb Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund

On August 7, 2023, in commitment to our Youth Academic Empowerment Initiative, Jenga Consultants Group, LLC, in partnership with The Movement Church, Benjamin Barnes YMCA, Stillman College, Alabama One Credit Union, and many other Community Stake Holders and Leaders, launched the Caleb Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Our goal is to provide an annual full academic scholarship to a full-time student at Stillman College through this scholarship.

Caleb Watson, born December 16,1996, was God-fearing, intelligent, and gifted in many areas of his life. Growing up, his family, education, and personal relationship with God remained his compass in all he accomplished. Early in Caleb’s life, it became very evident that his relationship with God influenced and reflected how he loved his family, friends, and anyone that met him. In addition to loving others, Caleb consistently sought ways to help, support and mentor others who were in need.

After high school, Caleb was accepted to Stillman College. While at Stillman, Caleb was active in many campus organizations, youth outreach programs, and student-led mentoring groups. He majored in Mathematics and was a proud member of the internationally known Stillman Choir. When he wasn’t at school, he was either volunteering at Benjamin Barnes YMCA (youth counselor) or singing in the church choir at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Caleb’s post-graduation goal was to secure a building that would house a sports plex, academic resources, and mentorship program(s). He envisioned that this facility would be located on Tuscaloosa’s West Side to change the trajectories of at-risk students. Caleb continues to have an impact on all who came to know and love him. On April 13, 2018, Caleb passed while doing what he loved to do: playing basketball.

The 2024 Academic Year Campaign goal is to raise $20,000.00 from August 7, 2023 - September 7, 2023. With your help we can accomplish this goal and empower a full-time HBCU student, support the academic programs of Stillman College, and posthumously honor Caleb’s legacy. Through your donation and support, Caleb’s dreams, aspirations, and academic pursuits will live on for decades to come. Please consider joining us in donating to this wonderful Memorial Scholarship Campaign today. No donation amount is too small.
