Story
A High Sheriff is appointed by Her Majesty at a meeting of the Privy Council, for one year. The Office of High Sheriff is over 1,000 years old and the key elements of the role are supporting those who administer law and order, and working with the local charity sector.
Caroline Bewes is serving as High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2021/22. As High Sheriff, a particular theme for Caroline will be to support and encourage those involved in crime prevention with a focus on supporting young people throughout Cambridgeshire. She will seek to support the judiciary, the police and the prison services, and is engaging with the voluntary sector through the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation which manages the High Sheriffs Fund.
The High Sheriffs Fund was established in Cambridgeshire over 18 years ago to support this charitable work. It recognises achievement and awards grants to projects involving young people in positive activities which benefit the community. This year we are aiming to raise at least £20,000 for the fund. Caroline decided to undertake a parachute jump as part of that fundraising drive and, on 10th October, she achieved a tandem skydive from 10,000 feet involving 30 seconds of freefall followed by five minutes by parachute. Huge thanks to all who have already donated. Any further support would be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference in Cambridgeshire.
