Story
Receiving a diagnosis of sight loss can be devastating, and there are many barriers to overcome. From education to employment, sports to social interactions, visually impaired children and young people face daily challenges that often leave them feeling isolated and marginalised. Parent/Carers feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to turn for help.
At LOOK, we’re not just a charity; we’re a community. And people say we’re a lifeline. Here’s how we’re making a difference:
PEER MENTORING: Our pioneering peer mentoring programme pairs young visually impaired individuals with experienced VI mentors who understand their journey. The mentors use their wisdom and lived experience to guide their mentees through the highs and lows of living with sight loss. It’s a support system unlike any other in the UK.
COMMUNITY EVENTS: We foster community, connection and camaraderie through events that promote mutual support, skill-sharing, friendship, and most importantly, fun.
ESSENTIAL RESOURCES: We equip VI children, young people and their families with practical knowledge, tips, and life hacks to navigate the challenges they face confidently.
FAMILY SUPPORT: Our parent support groups, helplines and events offer solace, guidance and a sense of community to parent/ carers, navigating the unique challenges of raising visually impaired children. Our fantastic VI role models lift expectations about what’s possible for the future.
