Lisa & Steve did not have enough money to pay for their son's funeral when he passed away a few years back, with a low income and no savings they fell into unmanageable debt.

Lisa and Steve's story is just one of the many sad realities 1000's of people face in our community. The good part is that they took the decision to call CAP (Christians Against Poverty) and with the help of their Local CAP Debt Centre they are now debt free with a brighter future ahead.

Our CAP Debt Centre is located on Salford Quays and has been offering a free debt counselling service in Manchester, Salford and the surrounding areas since 2015. Our service is in high demand and many times fully booked up to 3 months in advance.

We are looking to grow our service to help meet the needs of people in Manchester and Salford. The statistics speak for themselves with both cities ranked in the top 20 of the most deprived local authority areas in England. This affects our children with over 30% of children in the region living in poverty. The city of Manchester and Salford are in the top 3 most deprived districts in Greater Manchester.

Some of the key causes of poverty in the area are unemployment, low income and ineffective social security. These factors are all linked to over-indebtedness with one in six people in Greater Manchester going through a domestic debt crisis.

The above statistics are terrifying but together we can make a change and give individuals and families the support they need to change their present situation and have the hope of a brighter future!
