It’s a time of year that you wish you could skip, cos it’s a reminder of what you don’t have. Times of year that are built around family are hard. Having someone think of you is so nice when you are alone.
The Comfort Cases Team spoke to Leaving Care social workers and some of the young people about Christmas this year.
What did we learn?
*Not every care leaver has had a gift*
Social workers have had to randomly select young people to receive gifts because they didnt have enough to provide something for everyone.
*Young people like to make a Christmas list*
They like things that allow them to do things out the house with a friend - going to the cinema, having a coffee and a pastry, going to Nandos or for a burger; practical gifts that make like easier; and things that we may take for granted like nice make up, skin/hair care, fragrances that they may not have budget for.
Your generosity means alot to the adults that look after our young people, because they support them every week of the year.
The Herts West Leaving Care Manager said:
Every year when I stand in the room in Hemel and look at all the gifts that the Comfort Cases community have taken the time to collect, wrap and pack for our young people - I feel so emotional.
