For the last 80 years Ferne has been providing care and refuge for unwanted and abandoned animals in the South West of England. Located in Somerset we are home to over 300 long-term residents, and rehome cats and dogs within a 40 mile radius.

Story

At a time when the effects of the pandemic are just becoming fully apparent, when more than ever before every single penny counts, three large rescue centres run by national charities have closed. This has left us inundated with hundreds of unwanted cats and kittens.

As a result of lockdown restrictions many cats were not spayed, so we have seen lots of females coming to us pregnant. These cats will remain in our care while they raise their babies, before we can find new forever homes for both them and their kittens.

Every day we are receiving urgent requests for our help and without your help we will be unable to meet the massive increase in demand.

We urgently need to raise funds to help pay for the care of kittens like Harry and his brothers and sisters.

Harry is the kitten pictured above. His Mum was brought in by a kind person who had noticed a heavily pregnant cat stealing food from her bird table and scavenging around bins. The Mum was desperate to find ways to give her kittens the food they needed to grow inside her. She was in a terrible state when she arrived at Ferne and gave birth the next day. When her kittens were born, she was too unwell to be able to feed them, so our dedicated animal care team took on the task of feeding the kittens every 4 hours around the clock. The kittens bonded well with their Mum, and we were able to give her the care she needed so she could love her kittens.

We are now asking you to care. As a local animal charity, we have supported our community for over 80 years. Please donate to our appeal to help ensure that we are still here when you need us.

We are raising funds for kitten milk, microchips, vaccinations and veterinary care.

£10 buys flea worming treatment and a microchip so they cant get lost!

£25 helps us to feed a kitten until we can rehome it.

£70 pays for neutering to reduce the number of kittens that will need our help

£200 covers the cost of care for a kitten from birth to rehoming
