Carol's 160 kilometres for Catholic Care

To mark Catholic Care's 160th anniversary, the charity's Director, Carol Hill, is walking 160 kilometres during the autumn of 2023. If you can, please support Carol and Catholic Care's amazing work helping some of Yorkshire's poorest people.

Story

Catholic Care was founded in 1863, towards the end of the industrial revolution and in the aftermath of a period of unprecedented growth in Leeds.

The Victorian era was a golden age for the city in many ways, but it wasn’t without its growing pains – which were becoming difficult to ignore. We were founded and continue to be run on Christian principles, but our services are available to all.

We care for people of all faiths or no faith at all, and our staff are not required to share our founding beliefs.

Today Catholic Care offers a very high standard of support and care through a wide range of residential and community-based services, including: Children's Residential Home; School, Children, and Family Wellbeing Service; Community projects (such as lunch groups and a baby bank); Adult Learning Disability Services; Older People's Services; and Mental Health Supported Living.

About the charity

For 160 years we've offered practical services and support to people in need across West and North Yorkshire. We're rooted in Catholic-Christian values, but our staff, volunteers, service users, and donors reflect many faiths and none. We offer a wide variety of services across the age spectrum.
