Story
Caring Connections is proud to lead the 6th Annual Lightbody Health Carry That Weight Challenge — a powerful community event raising critical funds for James’ Place Liverpool, a charity dedicated to supporting men in suicidal crisis.
Founded by Brian Lightbody and Paul Growney, the challenge shines a light on the often-unseen emotional weight carried by individuals and families affected by suicide. Each year, the event raises awareness across the Liverpool City Region — and this year, we invite you to be a part of it.
📍 The Walk
Date: Saturday, 13th September 2025
Route: 26 miles from Southport to Otterspool
Symbolism: Participants are encouraged (but not required) to carry weighted backpacks — a physical expression of the emotional burden that so many silently carry.
Safety Note: Please do not carry more than 20kg, given the distance.
🎯 The Goal
We aim to raise £5,000 in total for James’ Place Liverpool. Each participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of £100.
💙 Why It Matters
At James' Place, our mission is to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. Since opening in 2018, we’ve helped over 3,600 suicidal men access free, life-saving therapy at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 35 in England and Wales, with men accounting for 75% of all suicides. Yet only 36% of NHS talking therapy referrals are for men.
In a friendly, non-clinical setting, our trained therapists help men understand and resolve their suicidal crisis. Men can self-refer or be referred by a professional or friend and we aim to see service users within two working days.
I’m really glad I went to James’ Place. I don’t think I’d still be here if I hadn’t found them.
Donate today to help us ensure more men do not face their darkest moments alone.
