Nestled in the heart of the Garrison in North Yorkshire, Catterick Saddle Club (CSC) is more than just a riding school. It’s a sanctuary, a space where veterans, civilians, and families can experience the transformative power of horses. A place that has been part of history since WW1 and continues to serve as a vital resource in our community today.

Originally built as a purpose-built horse hospital during the First World War, our centre has been a beacon of resilience and recovery ever since. The stable yard, which still holds many original features like its historic pharmacy, is not just a piece of history - it’s a testament to the healing power that horses can offer.

For decades, CSC has served as a riding school, livery, and competition yard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for all who visit. But we do so much more. We provide Equine Assisted Learning, where children and adults alike can experience the life-changing benefits of equine therapy. Our centre is also home to two local Riding for the Disabled (RDA) groups, supporting those with additional needs. For some, it’s a peaceful haven, a place to escape the pressures of daily life and find solace in the company of horses.

However, the future of places like CSC is at risk. In the UK, 20% of equestrian centres have closed in the last year alone. That’s over 1.75 million riding lessons lost, leaving many without access to the life-changing benefits that horses can provide. We are determined not to become another statistic. We provide life-changing opportunities for military veterans in recovery through both clinical and non-clinical care programs.
