Our garden is not a very inviting place, the ground is uneven, and the ground has lots of debris growing from surface cracks so not safe for wheelchair users.
We aim to build a sensory garden that will invite and engage all our service users. We hope to build a herb garden, that will be maintained by our service users, and the results will be used during their cooking activities. We will have a range of plants that will be visually stimulating as well as inviting service users to touch and interact with them. Our beautiful planting will offer a range of tastes and smells creating an inviting and calming space for our service users to spend time with staff and friends.
Gardening will become a regular activity that the service users can incorporate into their weekly structure so they can enjoy outdoor activities and feel a personal achievement in being involved in its upkeep.
Many more activities will take place in the garden, which is good for service users as a different environment will stimulate them and of course, they will benefit from fresh air.
The Sensory Garden will be a quiet, safe space with specially adapted equipment, such as a swing adapted for our users, to enable our service users to have more choices about how they interact with the space.
