Samaritans’ incredible volunteers create a safe, non-judgmental space for people to share their struggles and seek support. Every 10 seconds, a volunteer responds to a call for help, and last year alone, they dedicated over 900,000 hours to listening and providing support—showcasing the remarkable impact of their work.
With more than 200 branches across the UK and Ireland, Samaritans depend on public donations and the commitment of around 23,000 volunteers to sustain their vital services.
Starting in October 2024, Central Co-op will begin raising funds and awareness for Samaritans, as chosen by its Members and colleagues.
We listened when our Members and colleagues told us that supporting mental health and wellbeing was important to them. Now more than ever, we have a responsibility to care of each other through challenging times. By working together with Samaritans, we will continue to engage with our communities and raise awareness of the emotional support available all-year-round for anyone in need. - Paul Reece, Communities and Communication Manager
