Story

The EMS Foundation was established in 2014 by Tj and Louis Steyn in honour of their mother Elizabeth Margaret Steyn.

Our key purpose is to alleviate and end suffering, raise awareness and lobby and empower, provide dignity and promote the rights and interests of vulnerable groups, particularly children, the elderly and wild animals.

The EMS Foundation is appealing for funds on behalf of C.A.R.E. the Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education.

Help us, help them.

C.A.R.E. was established in 1989 by Rita Miljo and has successfully pioneered the rescue, rehabilitation, release and rewiliding of chacma baboons ever since.

Unfortunately due to human interference and cruelty, baboon mothers are often trapped, poisoned, shot, electrocuted, injured or killed by vehicles. Orphaned baboons are rescued and provided with the nurturing and rehabilitation required in order to ensure that they can become part of a baboon family again. They are adopted by a baboon surrogate mother and are given the chance at C.A.R.E. to be released back into the wild.

As you can see from the images caring for orphaned baboons is a very hands-on process at C.A.R.E. A volunteer programme was established in the 1990's as a means to secure an income to enable financial stability and sustainability. International students paid for the opportunity to study and live at the centre.

Due to the global pandemic COVID_19 international travel has not been possible. The international volunteer program at C.A.R.E. has been suspended thus removing an essential source of vital income.

We are appealing for emergency assistance to help C.A.R.E. in order that they may continue to provide high level of care to baboons at the centre.
