We support families with young children in Cumbria who feel isolated or overwhelmed and need help to cope with the challenges of family life. We specialise in early preventative support and believe that tackling issues as early as possible is the best way to support a family.

Story

Cumbria Family Support are here to support families with young children in Cumbria who feel isolated or overwhelmed and need help to cope with the challenges of family life.

A child’s wellbeing is at the centre of all we do and we believe everyone needs help sometimes and tackling issues as early as possible is the best way to support a family.

Across the last year we have supported 263 families across Carlisle, Penrith and Workington and surrounding areas. We have helped approximately 535 children and young people and 373 parent / carers through home-based family support services and we have provided over 4,285 hours of support for the families.

Alongside our home based Family Support work, our NACCC accredited Family Time Centres give co-parenting opportunities so that children can meet and develop a relationship with the parents they don’t live with. Our centres in Carlisle and Kendal are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who support the child and their parents, improving stability and confidence across the whole family. This year we have helped 58 families with over 600 hours of supported contact.

We also established two new 0-3 playgroups in Northside Primary School, Workington and Flimby Primary School.

Last year, through the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised over £600 so that we could provide families with vouchers, selection boxes and a few festive foodie treats at Christmas.

This year we are doing things a little different and are asking for donations to enable us to support families with essential items throughout 2026, not just for Christmas.

Please support us if you can, thank you!
